Ultrasonic examinations

6th week- gravidity identification

9th-13th week - nuchal fold measurement – nuchal translucency – measurement of thickened nucha on faetus on the back of the neck – this method is based on the factual principle that 70% faetuses with the Down syndrom have a significant swelling on the back of the neck caused by liquid accumulation. A taking of blood is carried out in order to find out the PAPP-A and a free beta-hCC determinating two plasmatic proteins, potential indicators of faetal anomaly.Fetal Medicine Screening Center - MUDr. Miroslav Bešťák.

Large ultrasound check-up in the first trimester (13+5)

NT = nuchal translucency= is created by liquid accumulation between the skin and the back of the neck of faetus. The liquid is present with healthy infants too, however, if the measured values are high the NT results demonstrate some defect (Down syndrom, potential miscarriage, faetal heart defects, etc.).The measurements are carried out between 11th-14th week (i.e. from 10+1 till 13+6); these figures gradually grow and later on sink.
At the same time, the nose bone is checked (if it is missing, it shows the increased chromosomal defect risk- again, particularly the Down syndrom), computer programme adds along mother´s age (the older mom, the higher risk of development defects), results of blood taking for PAPP-A and a free ß-hCG (Do you remember? The laboratory technician took the sampling at the last visit), currently found out the faetal age. And here we have the first results of risks related to genetic defects (in other words the first trimester screening). If the result is positive :o( = increased deffect risk – then it is feasible to carry out the sampling of choris villus (future placenta sample) which is carried out earlier than amniocenthesis (faetus water sampling). Moreover, it is not necessary to wait for results so long compared to the amniocenthesis results.

▪ 16.-17th week- so called Triple Test – sampling of a few milliliters of Your blood to estimate inborn defects of Your child.

▪ 21.-22nd week – so called “organs“ ultrasound – display and asssessment of heart, stomach, midriff, kidneys urinary bladder, spine, umbilical, brain, face, 4 limbs, faetus placement, placenta and a volume of faetal water. In case of suspective founding on heart of Your baby we send the patient onto superconsiliar detailed ultrasound of faetal heart into Faculty hospital FN MOTOL.

▪ 30th-32nd week – faetal and placenta biometry, faetal water amount

▪ 36th week – faetal biometry, placenta biometry, faetal water amount

▪ 41st week – targeted abdominal ultrasound, placenta maturity, volume of faetal water, faetal biometry
